Background

Jeremy Steven Singer was born to Emmon and Gilda Singer, a painter and a forester (not a ranger) living in the city of Arborenin. Shortly after he was born, it became clear that he was Awakened, and his mother — herself a minor Awakened — began to see to his training. It wasn't long before she had taught him all that she could — not because he was a particularly prodigious learner, but simply because her own Awakened abilities were so small. But it was enough to see him through childhood without the need for an additional Awakened tutor. He spent much of his childhood either in the woods with his mother, or in his father's studio — when he wasn't in school, of course.

Jeremy's cheerful demeanor, quiet dedication to learning, and Awakened ability caught the eye of one of the knightly rangers who guarded his mother's work team on their trips into the Woods, and the ranger offered to take the preteen on as a squire. After careful consideration, Jere's parents agreed, provided that he could return to see them from time to time. Sir Baldrick Keane was true to his word, training Jeremy in all the squirely duties as well as helping him to hone his Awakened abilities and still let him go home to visit his parents now and then.

It wasn't enough for Emmon and Gilda, however, as they had another child once Jere had left the home to become a squire. Jere could have been jealous, he could have been upset, but seeing those little fingers and toes, and the bubbling little smile, he couldn't be angry. The instinct to go all googly-eyed over babies was strong in the squire, now 15, and he adored his new baby sister whenever he got to see her.

For the most part, Sir Baldrick and Jeremy stuck to the Arborenin Woods, although they spent a full year with the Caravan as Baldrick tried — semi-successfully — to teach Jere to ride. The biggest gain from the trip was meeting the 18-year-old flirt Lionel Keats. Jeremy had always been a shy young man, and getting attention from the handsome young Valen was eye-opening. Granted, Keats flirted with everything on two legs, but still. The two young men flirted, but nothing came of it but a mutual attraction.

Going back to the Arborenin Woods, he spent the next three years completing his training with Sir Baldrick, and keeping up a casual correspondence with Lionel Keats. When he was finally knighted at 21, he took up the bow and armor of an Arborenin Ranger, joining the forces patrolling the Woods. He still found the opportunity to spend time with Sir Lionel now and then, and the two actually began seriously dating in 3010, eventually getting married in 3011. Sir Jeremy moved to the Caravan to be with his husband, but with the arrival of the Hostiles, he moved back to Arboren, determined to help defend the home of his family.

Characteristics

Description

Blue-gray eyes with neat, arched brows of brown above them and thick, dark lashes center a broad, pale face covered with a light sprinkling of freckles on his cheeks and across the bridge of his nose. The young man looks to be in his mid twenties, with a straight face, rich lips, and a strong chin and jawline. His hair is a dark brown with lighter highlights, spiked and tousled in a carefree manner that probably takes significant work to achieve. His frame is heavily muscled, especially the broad spread of his shoulders, suggesting an active life and perhaps even time as an archer.

His working attire consist of simple pants of a tough, durable weave in a mottled green and brown pattern, light, brown leather boots with soft soles, and a long-sleeved tunic of a similar weave to his pants in a gray-green that fades into rock and foliage alike. The tunic is clasped at his waist by a simple brown leather belt with a dull gray buckle without adornment. A knotwork ring of engraved white gold wraps around the ring finger of his left hand. Clasped at his left hip is a light falchion with a simple, single-edged blade, weighted heavier at the end than the base. The hilt has a curving crossguard engraved with vines, a design matched at the pommel as well. A compound bow is slung across his back, settled around a capped quiver, both of them hanging from a bandolier slung from his right shoulder to his left hip.

Awakened Abilities

Jeremy's aura takes the form of ethereal vines and leaves rustling in a gentle breeze that doesn't actually exist. He has shown a tendency to use Plant Control and Telekinesis in combat as opposed to flashier methods.

Quirks

Disdains the Spotlight - It's not that he's shy, it's just that he doesn't need to be the center of attention.
Easygoing - It takes a lot to upset him, and he usually rolls with punches well.
Soft Spot for Babies - Awwww, aren't they cute? With all their little fingers and toes? Awwwwww.
Windows to the Soul - He has very expressive eyes, and has problems hiding emotions behind them.

Aidan Lord Aidan : He seems skilled at interpreting dreams, and he's certainly easy to talk to.
Jocelyn Sergeant Groves : Mischievous and funny, but she does her duty well.
Lorelei Miss Quellton : She seems a little lost, but I see the strong roots of an oak in her.
