Upper Levels — Shelter, Niveus
The upper floors of Niveus hold a number of things. Here are the homes of some of Iah's affluent Citizen houses, as well as the large hydroponics garden and a number of meeting halls and business offices. The decor here is largely the same as in the lower floors, with a tendency toward simpler decor and furnishings in the business levels.

Housing can be found just above the top of the market, and are generally larger and more unique than the homes on the lower floors. A series of arched walkways and lifts connect the houses, which are arranged around the hydroponics garden in the center. The garden spans multiple floors, like the market below, and is where a great deal of the produce from the market comes from. Accessible by means of a number of brass ladders, catwalks, and lifts, the hydroponics garden reaches to the top of Shelter, where the ceiling is programmed to project an image of the sky above.

At the upper levels of shelter, one can find the business offices, where those who manage the day-to-day working of Shelter. These are a simple honeycomb of offices with direct access to the administration departments of Orelle and the science stations below, as well as the other settlements of Niveus. At the center of the honeycomb are a couple of large meeting halls. Each of these is set up as a place where the members and vassals of Iah house can address the citizens of Niveus, with vid recorders and sound equipment.

July 17th 3013 Evening

Elodie answers the question asked of her, and smiles as the citizen takes their leave. The sound of her name draws her attention, as does the yellow and gold. However, as the man addressing her is upright, and in much better health, it does take her a moment to put face to name. "Lord Garus," she greets, turning her steps in his direction so that he doesn't have to cover the entire distance himself. "It is a pleasure to see you looking so well. Lady Eiristra must have taken good care of you." She holds out her hand to him, "and you have found me. Is there something I can do for you?"

Kaedin comes walking through the upper levels after having a check on his Bear Cub, which he is currently in the proccess of teaching to forage. Yawning slightly, he finds an out of the way spot and lights up a cigarette, it's been a long week, with ramship and hunting going on, that he has rarely had a moment to unwoind, usualy his cigarette breaks are quick drags and that's it, not time to really unwind.

As custom with tradition, Garus takes Lady Elodie's offered hand into his and leans down to press a soft kiss to the back of her knuckles. Giving her hand a soft squeeze, he lowers it and takes a step back, resting his arms in a fold across the front of his chest. "Yes, I am alive and well and infection-free due to your care and assistance at the Caravan that day. I wanted to see you out personally and give you my regards and thanks, and any apologies if I wasn't a good patient." A bit of rare humor from the knight's voice. "Is all well, My Lady?"

Elodie's eyebrows raise. "You are making a joke, right?" she asks as she lets her hand return to her side. His appreciation brings a fleeting, self-conscious pink to her cheeks, but it passes soon enough. "You were a dream, as far as patients go. Most are more stubborn about not needing any help that I'm tempted to hit them on the head with a frying pan to knock them out so I can tend to them." She smiles at her teasing, and reaches up to tuck the hair behind her ear again. "All is well, thank you, My Lord. This is your first visit to Niveus?"

Odette comes back up to the cold shelter, wearing her coat and thick pants this time. Her eyes scan to find Kaedin with a smoke. She knows he knows better. The woman walks towards him and takes his cigarette out of his hand and frowns at him. Her eyes narrowed and he gets the look. Her hands move to her hips and she kicks him lightly in the shin, another little stare down from the silent Knight.

Kaedin grumbles as he is kicked… the one relaxing thing he has and people don't want him to have it, he can't very much drink because a drunk knight is no good. "Don't look at me like that, I cut down and you know it." he says as he crosses his arms and looks back at her.

Odette shakes her head and breaks the cig then flicks the pieces at him. She does not seem happy but not her typical I'm grumpy mood, this is a deeper I hate everything mood. She looks over his face and the slap across his face is lightning quick. She turns and moves for the door. He would have seen the rage rise seconds before but for the first time, that rage was directed right at him. It's never happened before.

A wolfish smile comes to Garus' features as he laughs, casting a curious glance over to Odette and Kaedin. Eyelid twitching as the poor man's shins are kicked, he levels his quiet stare to the two before directing it towards Elodie. Casually, he clasps his arms behind his back and gives her a shake of his head, which bares the strange, straight scar that runs the side of his neck. "I make it a point of pride to never complain or fuss about anything to the point of needed to be hit to be quiet about it. You'll find I don't spend much time mourning myself. Wounds are what they are." He nods his head sharply. "And yes, this is my first time in Shelter. I'll admit I should have probably dressed warmer, shouldn't I have?"

Kaedin turns his head with a snap as he is slapped. The kick was for a Cigarette, so what was the slap for? As the read slap mark forms on his face, so does his anger, a usualy controled thing. He walks over and turns to block her way, his own anger showing his in eyes. "The hell was that for? if you are going to be pissed off at me, and smack me around, then fucking tell me why at least!" He says, his voice only slightly raised.

Elodie smiles as Lord Garus shares in her humor. Her eyes rest briefly on the scar, but she moves on, her gaze slipping past Odette and Kaedin, then back as she slaps him, her eyes widening briefly before she returns her attention to Garus, perhaps concentrating on him a little more than necessary to keep from looking over to the two as Kaedin chases her down. His question brings a smile and a quick shake of her head. "Only if you are planning on going out onto the surface. It's a common misconception… Shelter is climate controlled, and really not a lot colder than most other places." She turns her head towards the entrance to the gardens that can be seen ahead of them. "I was on my way to visit the atrium, but I could give you a tour of our aquarium… if you have time to look around?"

Odette lifts her angry blue eyes and then her face goes absolutely calm. The only thing she cannot fix or change, is her eyes. They still show the anger on her face. She's the silent knight so really, Poe isn't going to just explain to him what he did. He should /know/. She pushes at his chest to move around him. The force she uses is pretty much her body weight. The woman is tense and ready to snap again.

Catching the slap out of the corner of his eye, Garus' eyebrow lifts and he turns so that he can keep a better eye on the two while speaking with Lady Elodie. After all, they appear to be armed, and he's unfamiliar with Shelter or its customs. "An Aquarium? I think it's been years since I've seen a fish that wasn't on my plate, My Lady. If that is what you wish then I'll gladly accompany you." Garus replies, motioning towards the direction she seemed to be heading with another fleeting glance towards Odette and Kaedin. This time a smirk forms on his face. Kaedin wears handprints well. "Though, I'll have to admit for such an icy planet this is far nicer than I'd imagined, Lady Elodie…"

Kaedin doesn;t know anything at this point, he has been too busy fighting Hostiles and dealing with things that need his attention. "If you arent going to tell me, then How can I fix what I apparently did wrong?" he says, not moving, and she could feel, and porobibly see that his own body has snaped into a reflexive state, most people wouldent hit a lady, kaedin is one of those people, but odette is a knight, and kaedin would fight another knight if he was provoked, a fine line, but it is there.

God damn mountain! Why won't it move? The tiny knight keeps shoving at the much larger man. She decides on a foot stomp since of course that should give her just enough time to deak under him. Her heel jams into the top of his boot, while her body twists around and attempts to get under the mountain. Her eyes show that clearly right here is not the place to verbally hash it out since she's already tired from her long talk with her cousin.

Elodie smiles. "That's because you are inside," she tells Garus conspiratorially. "If you step outside, you will undoubtedly change your mind." Her brows furrow as she turns towards the lift to the Northern Lights, and she catches more of the struggle between Odette and Kaedin. There's an internal conflict that shows in her eyes as she bites at her lip, and tries to decide whether or not to try and diffuse the situation, or leave it as a private matter between them.

"Well then if I do remind me to bring my furs, or Six abide my armor which is temperature controlled." Garus replies to Elodie at his side. Nearing the lift, he slows at the sight of Elodie's concern and turns to look over his shoulder to Kaedin and Odette's struggle. His eyes flit to his men, who turn as well to watch the display. Knights of Leonnida they are, they're peace-tied at their weapons, but start to take attention as well…just in case. "My Lady?" Garus asks with a lowered voice. "Is there a problem or is this normal behavior for these two? You seem to know them."

Kaedin grumbles, and against his better judgement. he grows nand lifts her up and over his shoulder, so infuriated with her that any fighting on her part doesnt register as he walks off twoards a private spot. "If you are going to act like a princess, then I'm going to cart you around like one." he states, the anger, confusion, and wearyness in his voice. Odette can tell that her being upset is the last thing he needs to deal with, as they bothhave hostiles to kill, and people to protect. Finding an out of the way alley way, he sets her down. "Now WHAT in the hands of the holy six is the matter?"

Elodie nods at the mention of being prepared, "your armor is probably a better idea," she tells him, almost absently. But then Kaedin decides to take things into his own hands, literally, and she relaxes some. "No, I am not sure. I don't know them very well, yet. Lord Kaedin is fostering a cub he found oprhaned at our rehabilitation facility. I am not sure what is happening…" She turns and offers a smile, confident that nothing truly violent will happen, but more of a concern for something being wrong with her friends. "We should continue on, Lord Garus," and she leads the way into the lift as it opens.

Odette is lifted up and she bites the back of his shoulder. If he's going to be carting her around she's going to bite. When he puts her down she punches at his shoulder, "How many have you had sex with? How many Ladies, Lords, Citizens… how many Kaedin?" Her eyes looking up at him and the hurt is now so very obvious.

Kaedin blinks and tilts his head looking at her. "That's none of your business, I don't make my daliances public, and I sure as hell expect my friends to not pry into somthing I expect to keep to myself." he says as he looks at her. "What is all this about?"

Odette pushes him away. She looks away from him hiding the hurt. It seems his words didn't soothe her any, probably burned her quite a bit. She takes a moment and moves to get away again, not wanting to open up to her friend anymore.

Kaedin steps out of the way. "Run from your problems then, you going to run from the hostile too?" He says, looking at her. "I've had to deal with young trainnees who are too emotional to even hold a sword, dealing with a family that doesn't understand that i don't think like they do, and a mother who goes apeshit every time I step into battle. You are the last person I'd ever expect to have to play this game 'ring around the skeleton' crap with."

Odette turns to glare at Kaedin. That really hurt her. That cut her so much so that she's holding back womanly tears. Her voice is growly. She must have talked for a while with someone. "Maybe it's not ring around the skeleton, Kaedin. Maybe it's the fact that out of everyone in this universe you were the one person I trusted to never leave my side. The one person who'd I'd actually like to be with but how can I do that? You are just like the rest of the Lords. I have never defiled myself by having relations with anyone. You were the first I even thought about it with but then I thought of all the others you've had and it makes me ill." She snaps at him.

Kaedin blinks and looks bac katt her. "All the others? You're acting like I've boned half of haven, TWO odette, okay? two. And what do you mean be with me? I tried years ago, and you responded by threatening me. I even tried recently, and you gave me a threatening look." He says as he sighs and tries to calm himself, feeling abit light headed at the revelation. "If you wanted to be with me… why didnt you just say so?" he says quieter.

Odette frowns and keeps her eyes down. "I finally realize what it means to be an Ash Knight. It's not that I'm dead but that I'm ready for death. I have to live each day like it's my last. For the first time, I was afraid that it might be and what have I done with my life outside of battle? Nothing. I'm nothing." She shakes her head and frowns. "I've never been with anyone. I've never wanted anyone. I've never thought I should."

Kaedin sighs. "That's what I've been telling you for the past six years, and you arent Nothing." he says as he looks at her, his anger washed away from him in an instant, now he looks weary and just a tired knight who has seen so much. "You are a protecter, and a true friend, I'm sorry if I got mad, I just didnt expect you to be like this.' he says as he leans against a wall.

Odette looks away and to the ground. Her own anger melting and leaving only hurt feelings. She stops speaking now since she's probably spoken more today than in six years. She licks her lips and turns away from him. At least she faced him when yelling at him for something that wasn't really his fault.

Kaedin sighs and does somthing he rarely does. he walks over to her, turns her around and picks her up into a big hug, he isn't going to have his friend walk away thinking he is upset at her, and he deffinately isn't mad at her anymore, the physical hits are realy just that, things that will fade, he was upset because she wouldent tell him why she was mad at him in the first place. "Poe, what do you want to do? If you want to get married, then we can have a courtship and let our families know about it, whatever you want." he says, getting slightly choked up, unable to hold himself in check due to his wearyness, good thing Odette is light enough for him to pick up with no effort.

Odette feels herself being lifted and then she's dangling in his arms. She lifts her legs and grips his sides with her knees. "They will not let us marry. There is no political reason behind a marriage between allied families." She sounds like Flint. She rests her head on his shoulder and keeps her arms dangling. "I don't want to feel alone anymore, Kaedin." Her eyes close while she brings her hands up to cover her face. She's so small that really, to him she'd weigh nothing.

Kaedin holds her and rests his head against hers. "Screw politics, we are in the middle of a war, besides, I can talk to my uncle." he says softly to her. "Do you actualy think that we would agree to any other setup?" he says, he knows he woulden't, he has been fighting his mother tooth and nail.

Odette sighs quietly. "You don't want me Kaedin." Her voice softens. "There are better women out there that would be a good wife to you. I won't be. I'll die before this war is done and you are an Orelle. You will be protected and live. You need a Lady…not a knight. I'm sorry I brought this up." She attempts to wiggle out of his arms.

Kaedin he wont let her go. "Protected? No, I'll be on the front lines, if I do live through this war, it is because the enemy wasn't enough to stop me, not because I was protected." He says. "I don't want a lady, I've never wanted a lady, because they wouldent understand me."

Odette grumps and goes limp in his arms. If he won't let her go, she'll make it difficult. "Your mother wants a Lady, Kaedin. You need a Lady. She'd understand you in time. Plus Flint said you are probably just thinking with your…manly bits instead of your head. That and we are meant to be used for political marriages. You and I, together, is not a political marriage. There is no point of it in that realm."

Kaedin sighs and sets her down. "My mother want's grandchildren, simple as that, and they will have to disown me, or send me to my death, before I marry a frompy simpering cow." He says simply as he steps back. "If you want it, just say so, and I'll ask my uncle, if you don;t then this is the last we speak of this." He says simply, not wanting to put his mind to somthing that he shouldent be worrying about, he is willing to fight for something that would make her happy, but if she doesnt want it, then he isn't going to worry about it, because they have a war to win.

Odette stands there and frowns. "I don't want children. I don't think children should be raised in a war." Her hands feel over her stomach and she huffs. "I want to be with you with..without… marriage. If we win this war, I will marry you but I cannot commit to being a wife to a husband who is a knight and might die in my arms. How can you want a wife that could die in yours?"

Kaedin nods and sighs. "I see your point, you do know this war will go on for fourty years, by the time it's over, we will be close to seventy years old." He says with a sigh. "If you want to be with me, without marriage, I'm agreeable, if it's what you want… and it will olnly be you, no one else.' he says, having that much respect for her. "And your cousin can kiss my ass, if he wants to know what I'm thinking, he can bring himself to me and I'll tell him what I'm thinking." he says, not likeing people who make him out to look bad.

Odette nods slowly. "We will be mighty seventy year olds." She takes a step closer to him. "I've never been with anyone so of course it will only be you. It's only ever been you." She frowns at the information about her cousin. "He is a man and he is sleeping around too. So don't think I didn't let him have it." She gets ragged and frowns. Her poor voice. It's almost gone now. She takes another small step closer and stops. Her eyes on her feet.

Kaedin smiles and steps twoards her, he raises a hand up to lift her chin so he can look into those eyes. "Not until you are ready, from this moment, I'll wait for you." he says with a smile as he lowers his head to press a chased kiss to her lips. "Now if this is settled, we have preperations to make, and hostiles to kill." he says with a smile, still looking down at her.

Odette looks right back into his eyes then sees the kiss and she's already flushed when the kiss touches her lips. Her arms go limp at her sides and her eyes cross a little to stare at him while he kisses her. Then he pulls back and she watches him. She gives him the look of 'Don't we always have that to do?' She reaches forward and puts her hand on his stomach, digging her fingers in. Apparently, she's not ready to leave yet.

Kaedin looks down at her, a smile on his face, understanding, he doesn't move to leave, or move at all. "Well, two knights who arent in the limelight all that much wont have to really be secretive, I mean, we are always together anyway…" he says, and she has seen him naked on more then one occasion.

He's never seen her naked though. She lifts her other hand and brushes over his chest. She's feeling him a little differently than clinical now. Her head is still bowed and her movements are not as fluid as they are in battle. This is new ground. They should probably be more private about things since people are now looking down the alley at them.

Kaedin clears his throat. "I think we should eather go to my apartments, or your apartments. For the sake of privacy, before a tabloid writer finds us and smears our names all over the info sphere."

Odette turns to see the people looking and she turns around stalking towards them. Death in her eyes for interrupting her moment. Her hands turn to fists and Kaedin only has a short time to catch her before someone is in pain.

Kaedin blinks and grabs Odette, vanishing behind a building and shaking his head. "Let's not kill the citizens." he says as he leads her twoards the ways.
