The eldest daughter of the Mordain family, it was expected that Andraste would work with her mother and the horses. She was, in truth, much better suited to such a task than intellectual pursuits like her father. The girl did often find herself tagging along to keep track of her brother, Ioan. The two were close enough in age to be at two wild ends of the spectrum on any given day. One day they may be best friends and the next- at one another's throats.
However, as they grew and their interests changed and friendships became more vital things (than just roaming the plains and playing at the games of children), Andraste's sights became set upon something more. She had no wish to stay with her mother and learn the path of being a horse breeder, but at the same time… she also had no desire to simply enlist in the military as her brother had made clear he intended to.
It was an old friend of her father's, Sir Cinnead Dormond, that led her on her future path. The man saw a potential in the young woman who had a fighting spirit and a physical capability. He offered to her and the Mordain family to squire her. Andraste quickly agreed and with her family's blessing, she began the path of a Knight.
Like many Rovehn, Andraste took to the polearm. However, she was better with a sword. A lightweight, capable weapon in her hands, she was able to move with an easy swiftness. Sir Cinnead had her train, from time to time, with the members of House Ligonier to hone her sword-fighting abilities further (as he was a polearms Knight himself).
During this time, she struck up a friendship with the Young Lady Ines; a fellow squire, though through Amran (rather than a Valen holding as Andraste was). They would often spar during the heir's visits back home and over the years, they faced one another from time to time in tournaments. It began a running tally of wins over one another that sadly ended once the war began and losses stacked heavily on Haven's side… including to those close to them.
Not long before she was Knighted, Andraste found herself in love with a young man from a fellow Caravan. One of those from her childhood, he had enlisted in the military much as her brother had. They saw each other as frequently as they could and he proposed to her; intent upon being wed once she was Knighted and he had risen in the ranks. This, however, was not due to be for though Andraste was Knighted soon after and plans for their wedding began… Jonothan fell in a battle with the Hostiles and though Andraste was at his side with sword in hand- she was unable to save him.
A true light went from Sir Andraste Mordain that day and since, she has been a thing of battle. When not on missions for her sworn House of Rovehn, she can generally be found drowning herself in liquor and playing at games of chance.
The woman appears to have a dark, bleak sense of humor on the surface like many who have seen too many battles and deaths alike. This outer shell hides the broken soul beneath that often yearns to be back with her family and the horses her mother breeds.
